Background of the study

Social media analytics have revolutionized political marketing by providing tools to measure engagement, sentiment, and overall campaign performance. In Lagos, youth political campaigns have increasingly relied on data-driven strategies to assess the effectiveness of their social media efforts. This study reviews how social media analytics are applied to political marketing, focusing on metrics such as reach, engagement, and conversion rates (Ogundele, 2023). By analyzing data from platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, campaigns can obtain insights into voter sentiment and adjust their strategies in real time (Nwankwo, 2024). The integration of analytics has enabled campaign managers to fine-tune messaging, optimize content delivery, and target specific voter segments more effectively. Despite these advancements, challenges remain in interpreting analytics data accurately and translating metrics into actionable political strategies. This study evaluates various analytical tools and methodologies used by youth political campaigns in Lagos, highlighting the successes and limitations of current practices. The review provides a comprehensive understanding of how social media analytics influence political marketing effectiveness, thereby contributing to more informed decision-making in the digital campaign arena (Afolabi, 2025).

Statement of the problem

Youth political campaigns in Lagos face difficulties in effectively utilizing social media analytics to enhance political marketing. While digital tools provide extensive data on voter engagement and sentiment, many campaigns struggle to interpret these metrics in a way that leads to improved campaign outcomes (Ogundele, 2023). The lack of standardized measurement frameworks and the rapid pace of social media evolution further complicate efforts to convert analytics into strategic advantages. This gap in understanding undermines the ability of campaigns to optimize their online presence and tailor their messages to resonate with young voters. Consequently, there is a pressing need to critically review existing social media analytics practices and develop actionable recommendations that can enhance political marketing effectiveness (Nwankwo, 2024).
